Stair Climber Workout for Trail Running

Time for a Little Incline Workout

Doing cross training with various types of cardio can help you prepare for your next goal. By using various methods you can target muscles and conditioning that you may not be able to do by simply running. Also, you can increase your condition and reduce strain. This post will give you a simple stair climber workout aimed at elevation training.

Stair climbers are a piece of cardio equipment that look like a revolving staircase. This will simulate going up a flight of stairs continuously.

Safety wise, keep in mind the brand! You will need to modify your hand position or difficulty level with different manufactured stair climbers. Always keep in mind proper posture and core engagement.

For the workout below we are using a Matrix brand stair climber. The levels are designed for a trail runner who is in good shape. Adjust for your ability by decreasing or increasing the level on the machine. Each set is composed of 2 minutes for a particular level. This workout includes three sets of the interval levels.

If you are having trouble with the workout decrease the level or the time. Build up slowly if needed. Also, trying cycling, swimming, or an elliptical for a change up in your cardio routine.
