Fredericksburg Run

5 Places to Run or Walk in Fredericksburg, TX

As part of our Dear Cardio Blog Series my husband and I would like to share with you some of the places we like to run when we go Sole Shaping for pictures on the weekend. Our first post is in the Texas Hill Country and near and dear to our hearts. Fredericksburg, Texas, is a small town west of Austin, Texas. It is known for its Navy Museum, shopping, wineries, and Texas hospitality. Below are five places for a run, jog, or walk that you can partake in before you get your shop on!

Key for Distance Section:
Sprint Distance- 1 mile or less
Mid-Distance- Good for 5k training
Long Distance- 10K+ routes

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park
Location: 812 Lady Bird Dr, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Parking: Abundant
Length: Sprint to Mid-Distance
Description: Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park offers a variety of options for your workout. There are open spaces to do a HIIT and sprint workout, there is the road you can take to make your run longer, and there is Live Oak Wilderness Trail if you are feeling adventurous. The park also offers a playground, softball fields, and a great bird viewing area.

Cross Mountain
Location: 1510 N Milam St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Parking: Limited parking only at peak times
Length: Sprint Distance
Description: Cross Mountain is located on the north side of Fredericksburg and offers a great view of the Texas Hill Country from the top. It is almost a quarter mile from the entry gate along the main path to the top. Please exercise caution when running the trail because it is very rocky and steep. For those looking for a little elevation training can use the trail as a hike and for the more advanced runner use the trip up for running and walk back down the path before performing the desired number of sets.
Nearby Eats & Attractions: Friedhelm’s Bavarian Inn, West End Pizza Company, City Cafe, Enchanted Rock

Main Street Fredericksburg, TX
Location: 400-500 W Main Street, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Parking: Limited parking during peak times
Length: Mid-Distance
Description: Running along Main Street in Fredericksburg, TX can be a really enjoyable experience if you run early in the morning. By running early enough, you miss the traffic that will constantly stop you at each intersection and of course the tourists that are beginning to enjoy their day with all the charm Main Street has to offer. If you are unable to get your run in early enough there is always San Antonio Street one block south or Austin Street to the north that run along parallel to Main Street with a little less traffic; provided you obey crossing signs. For my start I usually begin along Bowie Street and run to just past Barons Creek and back to get a 5k distance.

Gillespie County Fair Grounds
Location: 362 Fair Dr Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Parking: Abundant
Length: Sprint to Mid-Distance
Description: The Gillespie County Fair Grounds provide a wide open space to run as well as little traffic provided there is not an event taking place on site. Use the parking lot roads for sprints or wind your way through and along some of the other roads to make a longer run for your workout.

Frantzen Park
Location: 400 S Orange St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624
Parking: Limited Parking
Length: Sprint Distance
Description: Alex Frantzen Park, also known as Orange Street Park, provides a path and playground on the western end of town. The trail may be short but if your wanting to add a little more length to your cardio you can explore the local side streets and creek trails nearby.
Nearby Eats & Attractions: Old German Bakery and Restaurant, Wheeler’s, Main Street Fredericksburg
