4 Places to Run or Walk in The Woodlands





This week we are headed to the Woodlands! This is a beautiful, densely forested community. The Woodlands is located north of downtown Houston along I-45. Remember to bring a great attitude because most residents are outdoorsy and friendly. So get your running shoes on and be ready to say “How’dy” back.

Key for Distance Section:
Sprint Distance- 1 mile or less
Mid-Distance- Good for 5k training
Long Distance- 10K+ routes




The Woodlands Waterway
Location: 9900-9980 Six Pines Dr Spring, TX 77380
Parking: Abundant at various locations near waterway
Length: Mid-Distance
Description: The Woodlands Waterway is a beautiful and well maintained path that follows a canal. This path leads from entertainment and shopping to functional office buildings. You will see a Koi pond, water taxies, and tile murals along the way. If you want a good run in it’s probably better to get there early before all the shoppers descend.

Rob Fleming Park
Location: 6055 Creekside Forest Dr Spring, TX 77389
Parking: Abundant parking except during outdoor theater times
Length: Sprint Distance to Mid-Distance
Description: Rob Fleming Park is very spacious with plenty of room for a run, sprints, or even a yoga session. The park hosts a pavilion, outdoor theater, fishing pond, and a butterfly garden. Remember your sunscreen! The open landscape is beautiful but does not provide much shade.

Shadowbend Park
Location: 4192 Lake Woodlands Dr Spring, TX 77381
Parking: Abundant parking
Length: Sprint Distance to Long Distance
Description: This small park in the heart of the Woodlands offers paths for great sprint workouts. You can also lengthen your run with the neighborhood trails. These trails link up throughout the community. Know the major roads! You will need to be aware where you are because these trails bend and curve.

George Mitchell Nature Preserve
Location: Creekside Forest Dr Spring, TX 77389; near Rob Fleming Park
Parking: Limited but usually not crowded
Length: Long Distance
Description: George Mitchell Nature Preserve is a great place for trail running and hiking. The main trail is a mile out and back. Several other trails connect throughout the preserve. Don’t forget your bug spray! And be prepared if there has been a heavy rain. The trail will be muddy.
