Time To Raise Your Game
What It Is
Front Raises are a vertical pull exercise that targets the front part of your shoulders.
Why It's Important
Specifically Targets Anterior Deltoid
The anterior deltoid is the front part of your shoulder muscle. This muscle is targeted when you perform movements where you are lifting in the front of your body. Specifically target this muscle with front raises to help build strength for other functional movements that require your shoulders.
Learn Controlled Movements With Resistance
Front Raises are a great exercise for beginners to learn how to control movements with resistance. This exercise focuses on lightweight that is moved slowly with your arms and the rest of your body remains stationary. By becoming familiar with how to engage your core and keep control you can transfer the skill to other exercises.
How To Do It
Stand tall with your core braced. Arms are straight with the dumbbells held at waist with an overhand grip. Without swinging your body use your shoulders to raise the dumbbells to shoulder height. Lower the dumbbells to start position for one rep.
Modify It
If you have trouble standing for long periods of time you can do the exercise seated. Also, as a beginner you can do the exercise up against a wall to keep from swaying.
Power It Up
Perform a one arm front raise from a plank position to increase the difficulty.
